Simple steps to a greener lifestyle

Nowadays, more and more people are deciding to adopt sustainable living. Living responsibly and not wasting natural resources is definitely a wise and timely decision. But many people are still hesitating over the fact that they’re sure that adopting a greener lifestyle can dramatically change their everyday routine. In fact, going green will not make your lifestyle less comfortable. Small things can have a really big impact. So, if you are thinking about going green and still don’t know how to start, here are some simple ways you can:

  1. Turn off the power. Switch the light on only when you’re in the room. Turn off the television or computer if you’re not using it. Don’t leave anything switched on. These tips are extremely energy efficient and will save your money.

  2. Consider the way you use transport. If you go everywhere by car, it will be a good idea to share the car with your friends or colleagues. Use public transport in some cases. If you don’t live far from the workplace, it will be a good idea to go by bike or even walk there. These tips benefit both our planet and your health.

  3. Quit smoking. With each inhale, lots of toxic chemicals are released that impact both your body and environment. It’s money consuming as well. If you cannot break this habit completely, try to at least minimize the number of cigarettes you smoke a day.

  4. Save water. Take a shower instead of a bath, and try to make these showers as short as possible. Turn the water off when you soap yourself. For your garden, try to grow plants which are drought resistant. These will make your water bills less, too.

  5. Think twice before printing something on paper. Maybe, you will throw it away in a hour or two - and this is an unforgivable waste of precious resources. Try to deal with electronic information, if possible. These simple steps can save many trees as a result.

  6. Instead of buying bottled water all the time, use the filter to purify the tap water. This will help avoid waste in the form of plastic bottles. It’s also useful to have reusable cup with you. In some coffee shops, you can even get a discount for bringing a cup. Thus, paper cups are not wasted in vain.

  7. Borrow books and movies from your friends or public libraries instead of buying. This can help save resources like paper and ink and you’ll save a lot of money.

  8. Recycle. Recycling can save energy, it makes landfills smaller and conserves natural resources.

As you see, it’s not difficult to take your first steps towards a greener and more responsible lifestyle. As soon as you realize what you do it for, you’ll think about more methods to help our planet, help yourself and save your money.
