Top 10 Water Saving Tips

Living green is not a temporary action or several actions. Living green means taking on the responsibility before your future, before your planet and realizing that tomorrow depends on you. Green living is a state of mind, in some ways. Both those who make their first steps in green living and those who have lived this way for years will agree that saving water is one of the key concepts of green living philosophy. As one of the nonrenewable resources, it’s water that determines the fact of our existence. That’s why everyone should take in at least some tips for using water wisely and responsibly. There are lots of opportunities to save the water, when you are:

  1. In the shower. Take the shower instead of a bath. Make it short (4-5 minutes), and switch off the water when you soap yourself.

  2. Washing your clothes. Only use washing machine if you have a full load.

  3. Brushing the teeth and shaving. It’s a good idea to turn off the tap while doing it. This simple step can save you enough water to make 40,000 cups of tea per year!

  4. Washing the dishes. Use it when it’s fully loaded. Moreover, it’s a better idea to wash them by hand. But, in this case, don’t leave the tap turned on during you wash up. Fill in the sink with water and do the washing.

  5. Fixing the taps and toilets which are dripping. Small drops can turn into serious leakages if not repaired in time. Imagine – one drop per second wastes 4 liters of water every day!

  6. Collecting rainwater. Use buckets or rain barrels for doing so. Water collected is good to use for washing your car or watering the lawns.

  7. Reporting the leaks. If you see the leakage somewhere in the street, report about it as soon as possible. In this way, a lot of water can be saved.

  8. Replacing the old toilet with highly-efficient one. New toilets use 1.28 gallons per flush, which is half as much as the old ones.

  9. Washing the plants. Grow plants which need less water and are drought resistant.

  10. Thawing frozen foods. It’s a good saving idea to defrost them in a refrigerator.

Here are just a few tips to save water at home. Even doing something from the above list will help you save precious water. And as an extra benefit of green living – you will save your money on the water bills. So, make the right decision and come to the green side!
